QualityRights Planning meeting in Kenya

A team of technical experts who are supporting the implementation of the QualityRights Ghana project, have arrived in Kenya to assist the country in its effort to improve mental health services through the QualityRights in Mental Health initiative.

The meeting which is led by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization in Kenya, mental health and disability peer support groups, individual advocates and mental experts will identify effective strategies to realize the impact and nationwide roll out of the initiative.

Kenya in a related endeavor, seeks to enroll 50,000 users on the QualityRights e-training while supplementing it with face-to-face capacity building on mental health, disability, human rights and recovery.

It will apply the WHO QualityRights assessment tools, to further with routine assessments of mental health and it’s related services as a check list to improve quality of care and human rights in services.

Leader of the team, who is also the Chief executive officer of the Mental Health Authority leading the implementation of the project in Ghana, Dr Akwasi Osei, hinted that he is optimistic about the initiative in Kenya and willing to provide the available support. He intoned about the overall achievement of the initiative, which was to see a remarkable improvement in how persons living with mental health conditions are treated with the best of care.

World Health Organization (WHO) QualityRights

The WHO QualityRights is reforming mental health services and promoting the human rights of people with psychosocial, intellectual and cognitive disabilities around the world.

Ghana became the first to launch this nationwide and has since recorded some thousands of users patronizing the initiative. The initiative includes and e-training complemented with a face-to-face training
